Walmley travelled to Nether Whitacre on a sunny Saturday with a play-cricket prediction of 30% chance of winning. Walmley won the toss and decided to bat. Callum and Dhruv put up a strong opening partnership of 70 when Callum fell for a well made 36. Dhruv was joined by Abhay who put on 36 run partnership. Dhruv was caught for 36 runs. Walmley lost quick 3 wickets with a score of 116 for 5 (Abhay 13, Greg 4 and Viren 1). Yohan and Yash got the score up to 140 when Yohan fell for 19. Yash carried on to score 22 runs and fell when score was 161. Ryan (1), Darryl (4*) and Krish (8*) ensured Walmley finish on 170 for 8 of 45 overs.
Walmley opened bowling with Darryl (5 overs 18 runs) and Krish (5 overs 3 maidens 7 runs). Nether Whitacre started strong with an opening partnership of 68. First bowling change Viren (8 overs 2 wickets for 37 runs) took first wicket with a lovely yorker. Ryan bowled 3 overs and had to come off bowling with an injured ankle.
Nether Whitacre kept score board ticking along and were at 131 for 5 in after 31 overs needing only 40 runs to win with 5 wickets in hand in the last 14 overs. Yohan and Farhan had other ideas with taking their last 5 wickets for just 6 runs bowling them out for 137. Yohan finished with 10 overs 1 maiden 4 wickets for 27 runs and Farhan with an outstanding spell f 5.2 overs 1 maiden 4 wickets for 26 runs.
Excellent work ethic from a very young Walmley side in the field. Ryan (1) Greg (1) and Yohan (2) took catches and the rest were giving nothing away. A moral boosting win and I received a nice little complement from the opposition applauding the spirit our team played. Let’s keep this attitude in the field!
