Walmley veterans travelled to Wilnecote for their first game for the season. Yohan lost the toss and Wilnecote decided to bat first.
Rob Ellis (4 overs, 2 for 16) opened bowling with Darren Yeates (4 overs, 1 for 19) and got us in to a very decent start with Rob taking first wicket in the very first over with a lovely in-swinger. Wickets started to fall at regular intervals and Walmley vets kept piling pressure on Wilnecote with fantastic effort in the field. Darren Yeates took a blinder in square leg, diving forward followed up with a stunning celebration. Tight bowling backed by superb fielding restricted Wilnecote for 81 in their 20 overs. Yohan took 4 wickets for 2 runs in 3 overs, Darren Mason 1 for 20 off 3, Gerry 1 for 8 off 3 and Upul 1 for 12 off 3. As always Shiva was excellent behind the stumps.
With the rain falling and dark sky Walmley openers (Tahir 25 runs and Julian 5 runs) got off to a rapid start and raised to 30 in 5 overs where first wicket fell to a close runout. 2 more wickets fell with 39 runs on the board. a strong partnership between Shiva and Martin got us close to the target. It was obvious that Darren Mason has been watching IPL games, finishing the game with 17 runs off just 6 balls with 4 boundaries.
Superb all-round performance and thoroughly enjoyable game of cricket.
Great start to the league and next is Sutton at Eldon Drive on 25th May.
