Following last weekend’s defeat to Lyndworth 2nds, Walmley 3rds hosted Handsworth 2nds at Court Lane determined for a win. Yohan won the toss and decided to put Handsworth to bat. Krish Chauhan and Yashveer Chada opened bowling and got to a decent start when first wicket fell for 13 on the board with a regulation catch to George off Krish’s bowling. A dropped catch by the bowler created second wicket with a runout when score was 33.
First bowling change of Corey added 2 more wickets and 2nd bowling change of Yohan added 2 more to the wickets column in 2 consecutive bowls leaving Handsworth struggling with 6 down for 56 on the board. In came their No.8 batsman (Jamain ex national team player) who started hitting the ball all parts of the ground. 7th wicket added 52 runs before Yohan took another wicket when score was 108. 8th wicket added a very frustrating 120 runs where Walmley were poor with line and length in the middle part of the game. A clear stumping wasn’t given when score was only 115 proved to be the turning point with 8th wicket partnership took the game away from Walmley. Handsworth were eventually bowled out for 229 in the 49th over.
Corey with a superb bowling effort taking 4 wickets for 43 off 8.2 overs. Yohan took 3 for 30 off 10 overs and Krish 1 for 25 off 10.
Michael and Yash opened batting for Walmley when first wicket fell for 24 runs on the board which started a rapid collapse where Walmley ended up getting bowled out for 70 in the 26th over.
Clearly we need to bounce back with a stronger batting performance next week away at Old Edwardians and looking forward for a good game with this very young 3rds team.
